Your Move In Maintenance Guide

So you’re moving into a new home! You’re all packed and prepped to move, now you have to get your new home ready to move in. What needs to be done in order to ensure a smooth moving day? In this article, we will go through the few simple steps you can take to make sure your move is easy and your maintenance is off on the right foot.

Deep clean
Having a clean home on move-in day will take a lot of stress off your plate once you’ve moved in and jumpstart your maintenance early. It’s a good idea to scrub floors, walls, baseboards, and all appliances. Getting your carpets professionally cleaned will also ensure there is no left over dust or grime during the time it is empty.

Replace filters
It’s a good idea to change all the air filters in your home. This will ensure you have healthy and clean air when moving in. These should be changed every 1-3 months after moving in.

Find water and electric controls
Every home has a control panel for electricity and a shut-off valve for water. It is important to locate these in case of an emergency in your home. During your home inspection, you should be given a document showing where both of these controls are located. This will make them easier to find.

Check all security mechanisms
Smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector batteries should be checked before moving in to ensure they are functioning properly. Security cameras and security systems should also be checked or inspected. It’s also a good idea to have extra batteries on hand for all security devices in case they ever die or need to be replaced.
